It’s been the driest winter in the Tahoe area and the Sierra Nevada mountains since the 1870s. Those whose livelihood depends on snow or those who are just here because of a love of snow, are all getting desperate for the appearance of the fluffy white stuff. The bleached tall grasses of summer still cover the landscape. Finally, in late January the storm everyone had been waiting for arrived. Although it started with a day and a night of very heavy rain, eventually the temperatures dropped and the snow began.
